    8 hour burn, unattended

The media could not be loaded.

[Second edit: after one winter of 24/7 use with the stove I still love it. The top is no longer perfectly flat because of some extra hot blazes. But it would not be noticed by the casual observer. I don’t mind. It still does it’s job perfectly. I bought a larger sized cylinder stove for another house, and it burns through wood too fast when I heat with it. It was almost twice the cost and I like this one better. Highly recommend this stove.](Quick edit with video: I have been using it in my home over a month and absolutely Love it. Adapted it to 6” pipe at the stove to fit existing chimney. It draws powerfully).I did my outdoor “first burn”, and could not be happier about my purchase, so far. I filled the stove at 11:00 pm with dry black locust logs, shut down the vent and damper and went to bed till 7:00 am. There were plenty of coals that probably would have lasted at least a couple more hours. So I added a couple logs, and away she went. I love the length and opening of the fire box for big logs. I can fit a full sized spade in the door with ease for cleaning or adding wood chips. The top is cross braced inside and after a super hot fire of dried wood chips, it remains perfectly flat. I only used three sections of the stovepipe, but it was a very stiff Kansas prairie wind, and the pipe stood firmly with no extra support. The door and vent closure fit well, but I plan to push the seals a tiny bit tighter with very slight modification. It could be done with loose shims at each overnight use, or a more permanent shim apparatus could be designed to remove play (which is very slight). It won’t be hard to do because the materials and hinges are very solid and flat, coming together perfectly. It will be air tight and I may get even more than the 8-10 hour hardwood burn time I already see. The 5” damper is in the first section of pipe. I would rather it was in the second section for added heat radiation, but it is fine. I also wonder if a 5.5 inch damper would be too tight for the pipe? I may try one some day to see. The offset pipe hole is genius, but it made me wonder if it could have been even further to the right? (Allowing even more stovetop use). I Love this thing and plan to heat my connected kitchen/bedroom/bathroom in my house with it. I’m sure it will cut my heating bill at least in half. I figured you usually “get what you pay for” and I would end up disgusted, since it is a fraction of the cost of my other options. But man, I got way more than I paid for. I think this thing will be my close friend for years. It is such a solid build. Very impressed.

Very Impressed – Couldn’t Be Happier

I have been searching high and low for a quality, yet affordable wood burning stove for my cabin. After months of research and reading reviews, I settled on the Camp Chef Alpine. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive, but there were some concerns. My main concern stemmed from several reviews where customers unboxed the stove only to discover that it had been damaged during the shipping process. When I got home and saw the torn box in my driveway, I was nervous. As I unboxed it, I was relieved to see that the stove was in perfect condition. I opened the door of the stove and removed all of the components. Some of the reviews stated that the holes at the base of the stove for the screws in the legs were missing. I found this as well. Only two of the leg receivers on the stove were drilled out. This was not really a problem, as I just lowered the legs onto the receivers all the way and tightened the screws down on the metal. It held just fine. The setup of the stove was very easy. For the intial burn, I only installed 3 sections of the chimney pipe, but they went together very easy. The only other issue I had was the door latch wouldn’t fit down in the slot to close the door. I took a screwdriver and pryed the metal tab out just a tad and the latch, while snug, slid righ in. This “problem” would turn out to be a pleasant surprise, because the door now seated firmly shut when the latch was in place. I was actually anticipating having to install a door gasket, based on the reviews, but I’m not sure that I will have to at this time. My last concern, based on some reviews, was that the stove would burn though the wood quickly and would not hold heat more than an hour or two. I tested this last night. I loaded the stove up around 9 pm and got the fire rolling. I then closed the vent on the door, and closed off the damper. When I checked the stove at 6 am the next morning, the wood had burned, but there were still hot coals at the bottom of the stove. I mixed the coals around a bit, opened the vents and damper, added another piece of split firewood into the stove, and 5 minutes later had a roaring fire.I am beyond impressed with this stove after the initial trial and burn. If it continues to work in a cabin setting like it did in the initial trial, I will be elated!Because I intend to use this stove in a cabin, my next project is to replace the chimney that was included with actual durablack and duraplus stove and chimney pipe. It looks like there is an adaptor to increase the 5″ stove opening to work with a standard 6″ stove pipe.Long story short, I am loving this stove so far. It is a very quality product and an extremely reasonable price.

    Happy customer

I was very surprised with the great quality of this stove! Very well made and high enough off the ground that you don’t have to worry about your tent catching fire. Large enough that you can put plenty of wood in it and it will keep a very large tent very warm, we kept it turned down all night bc it was too warm! Very happy with this purchase.

    Awesome

The legs are indeed adjustable. The holes are irrelevant bring pliers and tighten the screws where you need them to be…. Pretty simple I’d say all these reviews about the legs. Anyways. Full damper mode and front air vents shut and this thing heats my tent with zero issues at all. I have 3 to 5 windows open at any given time although it’s only 40 outside right now. Cooking on this is so easy and nice ESPECIALLY with the side racks. The stove pipe starts at 5 inch and works it’s way up to over 6 inches…… I recommend getting an adjustable rain cap from home Depot online 5 through 7 inch cap is nice and no messing around. I’ve had the pipe red hot by total mistake just looked away for a second and bam shut the vents and put a fan on pipe and it was fine. Not often do I not have something to complain about when I buy something no matter what it is but this stove is simple and effective I cannot wait for winter here in Michigan to really test this out. I have a 14×16 tent and it heats up in probably 2 minutes at the very most. This stove is not for small tents the bottom of the stove doesn’t heat the floor even a little. I have brick under mine and it’s overkill 😂 a nice pad under and in front for if things fall out while you’re dinking around is all that’s needed. I like the brick so I’ll keep using it. I try to load wood in front away from stove pipe so I can keep flame from going in pipe and with the length of this stove that’s easy to do and it helps. I can easily throw this up over my shoulder but that’s just me. The stove is on the heavy side from what I can tell when I showed it off to others and they tried to pick it up. I’m 5 foot 9 150lb I do have a heavy lifting constant moving job so I am physically fit to carry this and then fire wood in my back in a bag with some water tied to the side if I need to. I recommend getting a metal wagon or nice sled for winter for transporting. It burns wood fast though probably 3-4 hours is the longest burn you’ll get the ash is minimal because the heat level and efficiency is so nice it leaves nothing behind. Well that’s my review. Thanks.Update Nov 2 2023MichiganLower temps hit the last few days and my 14 x 16 tent has stayed more than warm far more than enough so far even though it hasn’t been freezing outside (32°) or lower i have not had the stove full and wide open yet. The roof peak inside the tent for the pipe is over 9 ft high so the pipe heat isn’t much of a worry although I have a powerful fan hunger from my center support tent pole the fan is hanging from to blow on the upper tent roof and the stove pipe so it stays cool up on the top. I recommend a wood stove heat powered fan and also a nice power fan to keep heat moving around and to keep the stove pipe cool. With the stove shut down and damped down all the way I accidentally got the stove pipe red hot 2 sections up high and was worried 😂 all was well after I got the heat down and figured things out. Load small amount of wood and to the front of stove the keep flame from shooting up pipe and you can run as hot as you want. The legs need to be tightened with pliers that’s why there is only 2 holes after that they will not move ive had zero issues with the legs. User errors is not manufacturing error you turds. The stove is okay. I’ve noticed welding is not the best around the top cooking top so check that before your first burn and for other holes and imperfectionsStove keeps my 10-12 person tent warm in 20° weather. Not too bad. It’s a joke though the spark arrester they sent. I’ve ordered a few different caps and you definitely need to make a sleeve out of the spark arrester they provided along with a raincap that has a spark arrester built in. My tent has been replaced because of coals hitting the roof while damped down so yeah be aware. Don’t move the fire around at all and keep a couple screens around the cap

    Best choice!

I love this wood stove! It’s easy to use and clean. It’s just the right size for my 10×20 Canvas Cabin Tent. No leakage or safety concerns. I love the quality of material it is made out of.

    Nice small wood stove

Got this for my place since it’s small and I don’t need a full size stove ,this one does all that I need,it’s well made and goes together easy enough, the only problem is the pipe set included with it,it’s….a little sloppy,it doesn’t really fit together well and I laid it out on the floor to get an idea what was up and can’t see any way you’d put it together straight to go through a tent roof, you HAVE to screw it together or it’ll fall apart, not “portable”Now try adding an elbow to mount it in a house….the elbow didn’t fit and I had to do some magic to get it to work,it did but the pipe now points up at an angle,I’m going to get an adapter to use six inch pipe but for now it runs and is safe enough. You buy this be aware the pipe may be an issue, you can work around it but best bet is to just use something else, even five inch pipe can be found if you want to tisck with that. The rest of it is perfect, sturdy,no iunk, doesn’t leak smoke one bit,a great choice if you need a smaller stove to heat with.

    Great stove worth the money

I am definitely glad I went up on a bigger stove for our bell tent. We have been camping this week 4/1/24 in michigan. Currently it has been rain and cold temps down to 32 at night and this little stove heats us right out of the tent. My husband was quite surprised with how sturdy this little stove is. I will add we did do some modifications. I would recommend a different spark arrestor. There is one on Amazon you can get that will keep the rain out as well. Another modification I did was run some small screws into the stove pipe to help keep it together in the winds. Over all this is a great stove and worth it. It is on the bigger side we have a 13 ft bell tent and it does take up some room . But we are planning on using this through out winter as well . Here’s a update 11/2/24 so after using this stove for the early spring and now in to the colder fall month where temps are dropping into the low 20s at night I wanted to add this little tip for getting the most out of this little stove. Add a flat gasket around the door and this will help get a all night burn during the cold days or nights .

    Don’t hesitate

I did almost a year of research on this type of stove before deciding to buy the Camp Chef Alpine. I don’t do enough arctic camping to invest in the more expensive ones available, so my perceptions may not be what you can relate to, but nonetheless, here goes my review. First off, this is a solid, tank built stove. All the welds on my unit are solid and neat. Legs go on great and the door, though not air tight, is as close as you can get without having a gasket. Actually the tolerance is so close you couldn’t put a gasket on, much less the cement for it, it’s that good. All the parts fit very well. I must comment on another’s comment about the first section of vent pipe going down too far into the firebox and hitting the wood. Must have had the wrong section in first. There is a metal collar built into the inside surface of the stove that allows your first section of pipe to go into it. There are stops at the bottom of this hole that prevent the pipe from going down more than an inch or so. Do not be concerned, it is designed to go down in this hole. Now for the initial firing. NOTE: This process is not to burn off the paint but to CURE the paint.. This thing will fire up like a foundry furnace if you don’t damp it way down. IF YOU ARE BURNING OFF THE PAINT YOU HAVE THE FIRE WAY TOO HOT. The “burn in” is merely to smoke off the manufacturing oils used during building. After the oils smoke off and the paint cures it will not be the semi gloss black as new but a more matte black surface with no scorch marks on the stove anywhere. It’s a thing of beauty. So don’t rev it up just to see flames fly out the top. Take it easy.I really don’t understand the whining about it being hard to empty ashes. After it has completely cooled just open the door, slowly tip on its front, and then continuing in the same direction, tipping onto the top surface. What tiny amount is left can easily be spooned/vacuumed out, as long as there are no live coals. Always practice basic campfire/woodstove safety. As stated before, this is a very well built stove. One thing I should mention is that on the inside top of the firebox is an iron grid work welded to the top to help prevent warping and create a little turbulence for a better burn. This thing will roar if you just open it up completely so be careful and learn your drafting skills and you will have a stove that will last for many years. It is a great stove at a great price.P.S. If you are going to use the warming racks be sure and insert them before firing up as the stove will expand a little with heat and you will not be able to use the racks until it cools down again.

Worlds Best Wood Stove & Install by far.

It’s a good backup stove in case of emergency!

What could be better than a big wood-powered backup stove? I live next to the woods and have all the wood I can use, and this thing delivers. I did the curing process. Mine took about 2 hours. The smell was very bad, from the whiff I got when loading in the wood, so be sure to hold your breath a little bit around it when you’re first curing the paint. When my stove was delivered, the delivery man actually carried it way up to my front porch, which was unexpected, considering its weight. When he pushed it onto my porch, it made a loud scraping noise, so I heard the delivery!!! The metal feet receptacles on the bottom of the stove body broke through the box and were scraped across the cement porch. I was amazed at the packaging because it was not packaged very well. The nearby store sells it, but they didn’t have as great a deal as Amazon. It is not light, and when I needed to carry it far to the intended setup area, I used a dolly. It seemed easier to manage carrying after it was set up and out of the box. I moved it quite far after assembly by hand, and it seemed heavy but manageable with frequent stops. I used it to boil some hot cereal, but I left it alone for a few minutes, which was too long, and burned the cereal to the bottom of the pot. I didn’t think it would be so hot! It really gets hot!I have used it to cook eggs on a Lodge cast iron skillet. It worked like a champ. You just need to get some coals going in the stove before trying to cook. The cast iron skillet worked very well. I tried my skill at controlling the temperature, but it seemed like the air flow control was not so good. Maybe a seal around the front door or something might make it more functional. The iron disk that controls the air going up the chimney lets quite a bit of air around it. I don’t know if that is normal.I noticed discoloration of the chimney after it heated up. Also, the metal pin that goes through the chimney flecked off the metal paint — the all of the metal-colored paint on the metal opposite of the handle sloughed off in once large piece only 2 days after setup. Now I see the metal is actually colored gray and looks extremely prone to rusting and falling apart. The fact that the very important chimney part had a cheap veneer is not good at all! I am very concerned about the quality of the chimney and all parts associated with it. The chimney has scared me and posed a possible hazard while in use due to it moving. I pushed the chimney parts together tightly, and during use in zero wind, it made a creaking noise and started leaning toward the back of the stove. I feared complete failure and danger with my cooking. Also of note is the spark arrestor. This part is actually quite heavy-duty but is not designed to protect from the rain. Most everything to do with the chimney seems to be of the poorest quality. The stove body itself seems to be of pretty great quality. It distributes heat very well, in my opinion. I think that it is a great backup stove to have. I put it under a dark-colored tarp (so that it can heat up and dry if it gets a little moist overnight) and put all the parts (except for the legs) into the body. It is ready to go whenever. The stove comes with a very flammable paper fire-starter that works GREAT! I wish I had more of it. I use some wood shavings from some sawing that was done on the land in order to start the fire, but if I needed to, I have some fire nuggets to use in case it’s really hard to start due to wet wood. It’s a fairly good stove. I think I want a better chimney, though. This one is just so cheap. I wouldn’t know where to start. :(I would have paid more for a better product. I don’t really appreciate the poor quality items. It’s a waste of time and money to produce a piece of junk and ship it to me so that I can find it poor and then need to throw it away and replace it. If I could change anything, I would have changed the chimney. Please sell future stoves with better chimneys.
