    Worth the money

Just what I need for a trip to Mexico and the Caribbean. More expensive than a non-filter water bottle but the 18 oz size easily fits in my crossbody bag and I have peace of mind knowing I can safely stay hydrated while I travel.

Great filter, but strange bottle design

I go backpacking pretty often, so I’ve invested in good water filters from Sawyer and LifeStraw.Sawyer Squeeze:https://www.amazon.com/Sawyer-Products-SP129-Filtration-Squeezable/LifeStraw Peak:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09SBPP9R9/These two filters are VERY common among backpackers because they have the proven ability to remove bacteria (e.g. E. coli), protozoa (e.g. Giardia), sediment, and micro plastics. That means they can turn almost any “wild” water into something safe to drink. They’re also relatively inexpensive at $25-30 per unit. However, there are limits to these filters. They are able to block bacteria, but not viruses. They don’t filter out heavy metals or chemicals. Most of the time that’s not a big deal. However, I do know some backpackers that prefer to be safe and screen out anything that might pose a threat. Also, when traveling to other countries where the water supply could be more heavily contaminated, a more fine filter might be needed.Until recently I thought the only real, portable option was the Grayl:https://www.amazon.com/GRAYL-GeoPress-Water-Purifier-Bottle/dp/B08TTXBHRW/The Grayl typically costs about $100, so I was excited to see this bottle from Water To Go that offers the same level of filtration at closer to $50!Right off the bat, that makes the Water To Go bottle a great value! However, I found this bottle physically unsatisfying. For one thing, it only holds 18.5 oz, which is not very much water. But the bigger issue is that the bottle is curved so it has a really inefficient shape. I only need to filter water when I’m backpacking or traveling, and in that case, I prioritize a bottle that is as efficient as possible. So why build a bottle that is so dramatically curvy? It’s almost too small to hold comfortably in the middle. It packs inefficiently into a backpack. Honestly, I’m willing to pay a little more for a bottle that’s bigger and holds the water more efficiently.I’m glad to have this bottle as a backup option that I can use when traveling, but because of its inefficient physical design, it will not replace my Sawyer and LifeStraw filters for backpacking. On the other hand, I give Water To Go bonus points for using sustainable materials to make the bottle. I think that material, used in a more efficient bottle design, could be a strong alternative to the filters I currently use.

    Weird shaped bottle

So the main thing I’m worried about with this is that it wants the filter to be wet while filtering, and it recommends to soak it for 15 minutes. For every water filtration product I have that rings true, however the filter in this is very small and the top of the bottle is narrow, which means you get a couple sips before the water is no longer making contact with the filter when the bottle is upright. I can’t imagine the filter would dry out overnight, but I would be worried that it wouldn’t be wet enough to fully function. Of course you can always leave the bottle on its side so the filter remains wet, but since its my one qualm and could still be an issue I’ve got to mention it.The shape of the bottle is weird, but I actually like it. It’s comfortable to hold and its different than any of my other bottles. The box it came in says it’s made from the fibers of sugarcane left over after sugar extraction which I think is pretty neat.It comes in a very thin, brown and cheap feeling box, which I think is a pro. I prefer the thing I’m going to immediately throw away to be as cheap as possible personally, and the packaging certainly feels cheap. It’s a little smelly, but since I immediately clean anything I’m putting up to my mouth or face its not a big deal.Filtration wise it does require quite a bit of suction force to get water to come out, but not too much that its annoying. My house has particularly bad tasting water so it does need to be filtered, and this definitely improved that. I doubt I’ll ever choose to put it in a river for a drink unless I somehow get stranded and my only option is this or straight from the river personally though. This is more of a fill where there’s any portable faucet kind of thing for me.Tldr; weird but nice bottle made from byproduct of food, claims of environmental friendlyness, and filter seems to do the job (may get a tester but so far improves bad tasting tap)

    Too Small

This is not my favorite product. It filters water effectively and slowly. The size of the water bottle itself is small. The material of the product is durable and seems like it would last a long time if taken care of properly. With that said, I have not used this product on wilderness hikes or to clean water from streams; which may be the primary purpose of this product.

Filters are too expensive and only have a 3 month lifespan

Face it, the bottle is just plastic and isn’t worth much, but the value is in the filter and replacements at the time of this review are running $47 for a 2-pack. Now that wouldn’t be so bad if they lasted years like the Sawyer filters which can be backflushed, but according to the instructions, the filter should be discarded 3 months after initially coming in contact with water. As far as virus removal is concerned, I don’t believe that’s an issue. Having used Sawyer filters for more than 30 years, which do not remove viruses, it’s never been an issue. Look, I think this is a good product, but at $8 month for replacement filters I can’t justify it for anything other than a super luxury on a backpacking trip and even then, I’d really have to think about whether to use this or my trusty Sawyer that has a proven track record with millions of users in every country around the world.Another strike against this is the inability to simply filter water for cooking. It has a built in straw/drinking port on the cap which requires suction. Water doesn’t simply pour out when you invert the bottle. So how are you going to clean water at camp for cooking? I don’t think it’s possible.I did a little testing with some chlorinated water out of a garden hose that had that tell tale rubber garden hose taste and smell, and this eliminated it completely. The water tastes great, so that’s good. But with all the other issues mentioned above, it’s not for me.

    Great Water Filtration Bottle

This filtering water bottle is lightweight and easily portable. We ordered it primarily for use during backpacking trips and will likely use it for other travel as well.We recently took this backpacking so we could just use natural water sources instead of hauling water with us or having to boil it. We filled this bottle with water directly from a river and it tasted perfect. No flavor from the river, or any hint of plastic or chemicals at all.I love that the filter is just connected to the inside of the water bottle lid so you can drink from it quickly and don’t have to wait like you would with a gravity filter. The bottle also has some flex to it so you can squeeze water out without having to suck on the bottle, which is great for being able to share filtered water, use it for cooking, or even clean off wounds with clean water. This bottle is fairly small but is really comfortable to carry and drink from. The cover for the drinking spout snaps on and doesn’t leak. The lid screws on smoothly and the whole bottle and lid feels sturdy and well made. The additional filters are awesome to have on hand to know that this bottle will function for a long time.Overall, I am loving this filtering water bottle and expect to get a ton of use out of it between hiking and backpacking trips and traveling. It’s well made, does everything I need it to, and looks nice.

    YEAH NATURE, BECAUSE PEOPLE SUCK

I want to say right off that I love this product not only for its intended use but also for the production values it comes with. Anything that benefits our planet and the life upon it is a win in my book. We do so much bad that it creates a need for something like this bottle. It is manufactured in the UK and is totally recycleable, 100%. It’s made from sugarcane sustainably sourced. The bottle itself feels like any other water bottle, with a brand band around the bottom, attractive. It’s somewhat small, like a single tall glass of water. Otherwise pretty basic. The top has an easy open and close flip top lid, pretty basic. But that is where this one separates itself from the rest. The screw on and off filter assembly is the main component of this bottle. This filter is supposed to filter out so many different toxins, there is a list on the 100% recyclable packaging. It is sad to understand that there is a need for this that just seems to be growing. It seems that pollution is winning. There are many types of these filter packs out there with a wild and varied price range. Some with a more intensive filter systems. I would call this one a mid level filter. Certainly not a deal breaker. You might not be able to drink water from the toxic pond but you can be comfortable drinking water from any faucet or similar sources you might find questionable. It is very easy to use and has instructions that you can actually understand. So this one can be called a keeper. And again, anything that can help our environment, even in any very small way, is a win for nature and our planet. Use of this filter bottle replaces countless plastic bottles. Count me in.

Excellent addition to my car pack.

I imagine you could use this for hiking, etc, but in my case, I stuck it in my car in case of an emergency (what kind of emergency? idk – but if I ever get trapped in a landslide with nothing but mud puddles around me for a week, my anxiety will be validated) and I feel so much better for it. The bottle is good quality and it came with an extra filter, which I really appreciated. It isn’t a huge water bottle but I suppose it doesn’t really need to be since the idea is that it filters whatever water you need to drink whenever you need to drink it. It’s sturdy and I love the sustainability – came in sustainable packaging, too. Overall very pleased.

A good filter for the home or traveling.

    – The bottle is designed to be tilted upside down, and the water sucked through the lid. It is not a straw-type design. The bottle is pretty firm, so water cant be squeezed from the bottle.- The body of the sugarcane bottles is made from ethically harvested sugarcane. The bottle is reusable and fully recyclable.- The bottle is dishwasher safe, though the lid should be washed by hand so the silicone seals are not damaged.- Included filter is rated for 34 gallons of water. Replacement filters can be purchased at a reasonable price.- Filter: This innovative filter combines three nanofiltration technologies to remove up to 99.9999% of contaminants, including viruses.- Filter pore size: The mechanical restriction of the size of the pores has been the traditional measure of what a filter will eliminate. This is not the case with Water-to-Go. They combine three technologies, each performing individually but having a combination of two nanotechnologies, which not only reduce the pore size to 0.7 microns but also create a positive hydrostatic charge in the membrane which attracts and traps even the smallest of viruses like polio (which can be as small as 0.03 microns). Competing brands have a smaller 0.1-micron size.- This is a British company with parts manufactured in China (PRC)The above review is for Water-To-Go 18.5 ounce water bottle.

Saves weight in my pack. No more iodine tabs.

I wish I would have had this on my last really long cross country hike.(Lancaster Pennsylvania to Loveland Colorado). On this trek many of the trails I took were along water ways and sometimes there was available water from hand pumps with notices than the cisterns had iodine added and in some areas I had to add my own iodine tabs when drinking ground source. With this unit I never have to worry about that again and can drink from even questionable sources. The water that you suck out from it actually tastes better than tap water. As far as the expense of filter replacements, I don’t really care because my treks usually take less than two months and it is actually cheaper for me just to throw away the whole thing and buy a new one.It also takes a pretty good beating.I still carry two regular bottles of water for cooking and when I get into an area where I can’t source a stream or creek. The only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t fit perfectly on my pack and I had to make a special rig but that wasn’t a big deal.Very pleased.
